Prom
SHS PROM 2019 .... We are currently working to verify numbers for PROM 2019. In order to do so, we need a list of ALL students attending and whether or not they are taking a guest with them. The Prom is taking place on June 1, 2019 at the Best Western PLUS on Spectacle Lake Drive in Burnside. Dinner will be from 6-8 pm followed by the dance from 8 to Midnight. Boys Soccer
Congratulations to the boys soccer team on their big win over Halifax Grammar 4-2. Lucas Nickerson had 3 goals and Dylan Hatt 1. The team plays tonight in their first game of play offs vs LOCKVIEW
Football
In last night's football game, Rene Zeevat, Mark Mombourquette and Ryan Simms stood out for the defence but it was not enough as the Kingfishers lost to Northeast Kings 30-0. The team is back in action on Sunday night against Park View at 7 pm at the Burnside turf.
JV Girls Soccer
Junior Varsity Girls Soccer finished the regular season with a 3-3 tie with Citadel. Goals scored by Jasmine Day, Shealyn Goswell and Aaliyah Gero. They have a regional play-off game at 2pm in Burnside today.
Basketball Tryouts
Basketball Tryouts start on this Friday- Boys BBall at 4:30-6:30 Girls Bball Tryouts at 7:00-9:00. Eveyone is welcome!
NSSSA
Blossom 2018 is this year’s NSSSA metro regional conference. It will be a weekend full of cheers, leadership skill building activities, and new friends. This conference will be held from November 10-11 at Mount Saint Vincent University. This is open to any and all students. You can pick up a form in the main office. The cost to attend is 75$. Bring your form and money in to Mrs Mullane in room 111 by Monday October 22. You won’t want to miss this amazing conference.
Aboriginal Smudging
Attention All SHS Students & Staff - An Aboriginal Smudging Ceremony will take place October 24 starting at 8:30 out in the back field of the school. Everyone is welcome to attend. Students must have parent consent before attending. Forms can be picked up from the door of Room #229 - across from the library.
Me to We
Attention all students who signed up for Me to We! Our first meeting will be at lunch on Tuesday, October 16th, in Ms McGraths room, 103.
Girls Volleyball
The girl’s volleyball team is selling fudge to help fundraise!! It’s $10 for half a pound, just ask any team member and they will put you on their order form.
Mascot Showdown
Calling all dancers! Tryouts for the mascot showdown dance team will be held on Tuesday, October 16th after school in the drama room, room 321! Please come out and show us your kingfisher spirit and your best dance skills!
Parking passes
A reminder to all students; you must have a SHS parking pass to park on school grounds. The application form is on the web site. Please print and complete and submit to the main office for approval and to receive your parking sticker.
SHAD enrichment
Do you want to spend the month of July living and learning at a university campus? The SHAD enrichment program is an opportunity for high school students to experience hands-on learning through lectures, labs, workshops and challenges at a host university. Students in grades 10-12 are invited to an info session on Tuesday, Oct 16 at 10:00 AM in room 111. Come out and learn how you can explore Canada this July and meet student leaders from across the country. Please see Ms Taylor Moore or Mrs Mullane to sign up for the info session.
Green Team
Calling all Kingfishers! Your green team is going plogging on October 18th (weather permitting). What’s plogging?? Plogging is a mix of jogging, but we will be walking, and picking up litter! Please meet us in the lobby at lunch on October 18th if you want to join us!
Academic Awards Afternoon
The Academic Awards afternoon has been postponed until Oct 18.The list of students invited to the Academic Awards is now posted outside of the Main Office. If you have any questions or if your name is spelled incorrectly see Mrs. Doyle in Room 303.
