SSWANS
For African Heritage Month, we will be sharing a fact about black history everyday. Today’s fact, is that the first African American Anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” was performed as a poem to help celebrate Lincoln’s birthday on February 12th, 1900 by 500 school children at Stanton, a segregated school. The principal, James Weldon Johnson, was the author. His brother John later put the poem to music in 1905, creating the anthem.
Girls Hockey
The girls’ hockey team secured their spot for the regional tournament yesterday with a 4 – 2 win over the Prince Andrew Panthers. Makenna Rinnard had a monster game leading the way with 2 goals and 2 assists for a 4-point game. Maddie Paul had a goal and an assist with Kate Holman finding the net late in the third. Our captain Allison Withrow and Brennan Himmelman each had an assist. Once again Chloe Sinnott was solid in net. Bring on the playoffs….GO KINGFISHERS !!!!
