Good Evening Kingfisher Students, Parents, and Guardians,
High School Final Assessment Information:
January 2026
Purpose of Final Assessments
Final assessments assess students’ understanding and application of the concepts and skills related to the expected learning outcomes for a subject or course. They can take many forms, including, but not limited to, presentations, portfolios, interviews, and examinations.
If an examination is the chosen format for a final assessment, it must take place during the timeframe specified by EECD.
Final Assessments (not in the form of an Examination – previously referred to as Process Exams)
Taking place from January 19-23
Specific subjects and teachers may complete final assessments during regular class times the week prior to the Summative Assessment (Examinations) period (January 28 & 29) as outlined in the provincial school calendar. These assessments provide valuable information on student achievement of the learning outcomes. It is important that students be present for these assessments, as they cannot be easily rescheduled. These will be taking place from January 19-23.
Students must attend all classes during this time. Completing a final assessment that is not an examination does not mark the end of the course—attendance is still expected for all scheduled classes.
Courses that will be completing final assessments, not in the form of an examination can be found here: Pre-exam block assessment list Semester 1 Jan. 19-23.pdf
If your child will be absent, please contact their classroom teacher right away or reach out to a Vice Principal:

Student Reminders
- Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes leading up to examinations. Students must be in class. They cannot be in the building and not in class.
- Academic Integrity: Please be reminded that any instances of academic integrity violations will have consequences. Students are not permitted to have any devices, phones, smartwatches, or smart eyeglasses, at their desks during exams. We have seen an increase in the use of ChatGPT and other tools that bring the legitimacy of student work into question. Kingfishers, we believe in your abilities and know you’ve worked hard to prepare, this is your time to shine!
- Be Prepared: Get a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast or lunch! The school will have breakfast program in the morning and snacks on hand as students arrive for exams.
- Textbooks: All textbooks for semester 1 courses should be returned to the library after students final summative assessments.
Snow Days
If school is closed due to weather during the exam days (January 28th or January 29th), the exam schedule will be adjusted. The exam schedule is adjusted by advancing it one day for each missed exam day. Example: If there is a school cancellation on Wednesday, January 28th, all Wednesday’s exams move to Thursday, January 29th and each following day adjusts by one day.
If you or your child has any questions, please reach out to their teacher directly with any questions.
We wish all students the very best as they prepare for final assessments and finish the semester strong.
Thank you for your continued support!
Mrs. Canavan, Mr. Matheson and Mrs. Chiasson
