Your school has registered you for the Student Transit Pass Program for the 2026/27 school year. This means you are eligible for a free annual Student Transit Pass giving you unlimited access to all Halifax Transit services.
To receive your pass, you need to create an HFXGO account. Here is how:
1. Download the HFXGO app on your phone (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play — search “HFXGO”).
2. Open the app and select Create Account.
3. Enter your student email address and create a password.
4. Check your student email for a verification email and confirm your account.
5. Halifax Transit will issue your pass. It is not automatic when you create your account, so allow up to one week. You will receive a confirmation email when your pass is ready.
You can create your account right now. You do not need to wait for anything from Halifax Transit to get started. If you have not created your account by late August, you will receive a reminder email.
You will receive the reminder email from “noreply@justride.com”, so check your junk folder if you don't see them. Ignore any instructions asking you to add a primary token or a Smart Card, and don't add a payment method. Once you get an email saying your pass has been issued, open HFXGO, go to your wallet, and tap "refresh wallet" to load your pass onto your phone.
Create your account before your first day of school so your pass is ready when classes start. Passes are issued on a rolling basis, so if you sign up later you will still get your pass, usually within a week. If you had a Student Transit Pass last year, it stays valid until Sept. 11, 2026, so you are covered while your new pass is being issued.
Once your pass is loaded and activated, here is how to use it
On the bus: Scan your HFXGO app on the validator when boarding.
On the ferry: Scan your HFXGO app on the validator when entering the waiting area.
Your pass gives you unlimited travel on all Halifax Transit services including bus, ferry, and Regional Express routes (320, 330and 370), and you won't need to pay the usual $1.00 top-up fee on Regional Express. You only need an internet connection the first time you register and activate your pass. After that, your pass works without needing a data connection.
